According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Glioblastoma (GBM), also called grade IV astrocytoma, is a super aggressive and speedy-growing brain tumor. It starts in the brain and can sneak into nearby tissues, although it usually doesn’t spread to other body parts. GBM can pop up out of nowhere or evolve from less serious astrocytomas. It mostly affects grown-ups, often showing up in certain parts of the brain like the frontal and temporal lobes.

GBM is like a really nasty type of brain cancer that can be deadly within just six months if it’s not treated. That’s why getting specialized care from neuro-oncologists and neurosurgeons right away is super important because it can really make a big difference in how long someone might live.

It’s the most common type of malignant brain and central nervous system tumor, making up almost half of all cases. About 3.21 out of every 100,000 people get diagnosed with GBM.

The signs of GBM can be different depending on where the tumor is, but they might include bad headaches that won’t go away, blurry or double vision, throwing up, not feeling hungry, acting different than usual, having trouble thinking, having seizures for the first time, or struggling to talk. Because GBM is so aggressive and can spread quickly, catching it early and getting help ASAP is really important for treating it and giving people a better chance of getting better.
